Student Community Education

RAHI’s Peer Education Programme (PEP) is a unique student peer intervention strategy aimed at building resources within the student community for incest/CSA prevention and healing. It works with young women on college campuses to bring about change at the grassroots level. These women are selected and trained as peer educators on the subject of incest/CSA. The PEP seeks to effectively utilize that which comes to young women most naturally – learning from, confiding in and supporting each other. Our programme simply harnesses this everyday interaction amongst peers and their naturally occurring influence on each other and provides young women with information, training and skills to address issues related to incest/CSA in their community.

The PEP provides training for women students of different colleges who become Peer Educators (PE’s), who in turn design and lead educational activities for their peers. For the PE’s benefits include increased self-esteem, increased knowledge and skills on planning and presentation, leadership, handling disclosure and working as a team. They also gain work experience that may facilitate job seeking efforts and a broader personal and professional network.
